I’m in love!
Posted by trustmyintuition under Breakfasts, Dinner, Groceries, Lunch | Tags: Trader Joe's, Whole Foods |I had no time to post yesterday because I had such a busy, yet fun filled day! I woke up and made a quick breakfast before running a couple of errands. I made a creamy bowl of oatmeal using 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup soymilk, 3/4 cup water, 1 frozen banana, 1 Tbsp wheat germ, 1 Tbsp flaxseed meal, 1 Tbsp walnuts, 1 tsp brown sugar, cinnamon, and a spoonful of PB. Perfect way to start and fuel me for my busy day! This delicious bowl weighed in at 466 calories, 16 g fat, 13 g fiber, and 16 g protein.
Then, I headed out to run a few errands before heading into the city to Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods! I have been waiting so long for this day to come, and it finally came! My dad and I first went to TJ’s. What a cool little store! I bought a few things (2 jars of TJ’s creamy PB one with salt and the other without, reduced sugar blueberry preserves, reduced sugar strawberry preserves, 2 packages of tempeh, 2 bananas (because the ones from Sam’s club are always green when we get them and I needed some to be ready to eat), 2 loaves of TJ’s sprouted wheat bread, pure maple syrup, extra firm tofu, unsweetened soymilk, and whole wheat couscous. Then, we went to Whole Foods thinking I only needed to get a few more things (I wanted to buy most of my stuff at TJ’s since I heard it was cheaper). Whole Foods was still cheaper than my regular grocery store!!! I was in heaven here. I LOVE WF! haha. Those bulk bins are so neat, and omg…the produce is the best I’ve ever seen. I love how the apples are perfectly aligned.
So, here is what I got…Ezekiel sprouted grain tortillas, brown basmati rice, agave nectar, veganaise, sunflower kernels, two containers of plain silk yogurt, Annie’s Roasted Red Pepper Vinaigrette, lite silken tofu, firm tofu, Vegan Gourmet Cheese Alternative, whole ground flaxseed meal, Seitan, a free sample of natural toothpaste!, kale, red cabbage, and from the bulk bins: steel cut oats, nutritional yeast, and quinoa. Next, we went to Sam’s club where I was planning to get more rolled oats because I’m dangerously low! They only had quick oats this time!
We got two bunches of bananas, kiwi, bell peppers, oranges, shelled walnuts, and mushrooms. Then, we went to Giant Eagle to get a prescription. I bought rolled oats there. These were $3.39, for Bob’s Red Mill and were actually cheaper than the regular quaker kind for the same amount (2 lbs) of oats! Those were $4.19, I think. I didn’t expect this, and was very pleased when I saw this. For the record, that bottle of Annie’s dressing (not organic) at whole foods was over a dollar cheaper than the regular kind at Giant Eagle. Everything that I looked for was cheaper as well. I ran around the store looking at things I bought to check! So, a lot of time was spent grocery shopping today, but I feel like I got so much accomplished, and now I have so many options! I’m a happy girl. All of this food should last me a long time. About $100 for everything. Not bad at all. I would be even happier if they put a Whole Foods and/or Trader Joe’s in closer to where I live. That would be excellent
So, I didn’t end up eating lunch until 4:00!!! How crazy is that. I was pretty darn hungry. I should have brought something to snack on. I made a PB and blueberry preserves sandwich (with my old Smucker’s natural creamy PB) and 2 slices of TJ’s sprouted wheat bread! I really liked this bread a lot!! I cut up an apple, a kiwi, yellow bell pepper, and about 4 oz of soy yogurt to have on the side. Filled my tummy right up! Sorry, I have no picture. The moment didn’t seem right with everyone practically standing around me
haha. My lunch was 570 calories, 21 g fat, 17 g fiber, and 22 g protein.
My dinner ended up being very late (9:30!!) because my boyfriend (Brian) wanted this Penguin’s hat so badly, so we ended up driving about 40 minutes away to get it since stores closer to us had none left. I heated up a portion of leftover snobby joes and had that in a La Tortilla factory gluten free Dark Teff Wrap. These wraps really aren’t good. They’re too tough, I think since they’re gluten free. They’re not terrible, just not soft. Kinda weird. Anyways, I had a spinach salad as well with a plum tomato, 1/2 an avocado, some cucumber, carrot, and a bit of iceberg salad blend with 2 Tbsp Annie’s Roasted Red Pepper Viniagrette. I LOVE THIS DRESSING! It’s perfect! Soo good! This meal was 530 calories, 22 g fat, 18 g fiber, and 15 g protein. Here’s a picture I took with my camera phone..(Not too good).
After I ate my late dinner, Brian and I watched 27 Dresses. Great movie! A little cheesy at times, but I really liked it overall. I can always go for a good chick flick! I was up really late afterwards looking at all of my course work for one of my summer classes. I felt overwhelmed! The class has three parts though (lecture, lab, and clinical), so a lot of work is expected I guess. I have got a lot of reading to do before Monday! I will probably be very busy with school and work (once I start), so I’m not sure how this will affect me blogging. Hopefully not too much. I will definitely try to fit it in! Have a Happy Saturday

What does sprouted bread taste versus regular bread? How many calories are each slice?
Also, what is agave nectar? Is that like brown rice syrup?

Looks like you had a productive day! Grocery shopping can take forever! It’s almost overwhelming to look at all the new products out there!
What does the salad dressing taste like? It looks good! Looks similar to french dressing.

April-
Yes, I am studying to be a nurse
Molly-
Sprouted wheat bread is grainier than regular. The Trader Joe’s kind I bought is only 60 calories per slice. The Ezekiel sprouted grain bread I have is 80 calories per slice. I think the TJ’s brand is better for PB and J sandwiches, but maybe I just can’t get the Ezekiel bread perfectly heated? Agave nectar is very similar to honey except it has a sweeter taste and is a bit thinner. 60 calories per Tbsp (same as honey). It is composed of mainly fructose, which allows it to have a low Glycemic index. It comes from the core of the agave plant. I prefer it to honey
Kat-
The Annie’s dressing tastes slightly like italian dressing. I can’t really compare it to much because I generally dislike most dressings. I think it might be because my family buys light dressings (usually Kraft or Wishbone), and they have a weird taste. Yuck! So, I usually just stick to oil and vinegar to dress my salads, but after seeing so many bloggers rave about Annie’s I had to try and chose this one. I have never even tried french dressing, but you’re right, it does look similar to it! Annie’s Roasted Red Pepper Vinaigrette is awesome! I highly recommend it.
