Limited options

Another almost dreaded trip to the dining hall! I usually begin by going around and putting vegetables on my plate (ones that aren’t cooked in butter or saturated in oil), then I pray that there will be hummus (lucky me today there was), then I walk on over to the sandwich place and ask for whole wheat bread. Today there was no whole wheat, so I got two slices of the 12 grain bread. I’m not sure what the nutritionals are like, but it sounded like my best option. I asked for tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and jalapenos on it. Then I picked a seat, slathered on about 1/4 cup or so of roasted red pepper hummus, and piled on some carrots. I also took some black beans but did not eat them because (1) I’ve already gotten enough protein today, and (2) they don’t rinse the beans. I hate when they’re in their syrup! Yuck. It is hard to see the hummus and jalapenos in the picture, but they’re there! I brought a clif Nectar bar with me in dark chocolate raspberry in case what was available for me to eat wasn’t substantial enough. I ate it as well. So, here is my sandwich and clif bar (it seems like I rely on bars a lot, which is true only when I’m at school because that’s really all I have besides more fruit, cereal, or crackers). I figured the bars are a better combo of protein, CHO, fat, and fiber, so that’s what I chose. Plus the larabars are raw and have only fruit and nuts in them, which I LOVE! Oh, and I almost forgot…before heading to the gym at 5:00 where I burned ~600 kcal (30 min intense ET + 15 min intense running on treadmill…seems like a lot of calories, but I worked hard I guess) I had a strawberry silk Live soy yogurt and 1/4 cup roasted, salted sunflower seeds.

I also decided to take a picture of my refrigerator or just the door of it. The only thing that is inside is water and a little container of hummus. Not that the hummus wasn’t worthy of a picture or anything. I like to buy a few cartons of soymilk at a time because sometimes they don’t have it, and I would cry if I couldn’t have any with my cereal! Those Kagome fruit and vegetable drinks have been sitting in there for about a month. I took a sip out of one and it was O.K., but I just don’t like to drink my calories. Plus I’d rather eat a real piece of fruit or vegetables because it’s more satisfying to me and you get the added benefits of fiber! Don’t know why I bought them :/ I will make an effort to drink one tomorrow maybe?
